Game Room Alley

Located at 317 Main Street, Game Room Alley opened in July 2019. The alley is the EID's first "placemaking" project. The concept for this project came from the phrase; "Let's meet but not eat." Designed for use by all ages, it's a place stocked with games and landscaped spots to sit and relax. Moveable tables and chairs were chosen to allow users to find a spot they feel most comfortable. A relationship with our local Lowe's stores has provided additional upgrades to the space, including a storage shed and equipment to maintain the alley.

In 2021, the alley became the home to “The Honey Machine” mural by artist Tad Kaufman. The mural is the first in the community to incorporate gas meter infrastructure and was done with the permission of, and guidance from CenterPoint Energy.

Tad shares, “My goal as an artist is to inspire others – to take a picture, start a conversation, question my art, or be inspired to create art themselves. I love my art to be bold, colorful, and original with a touch of the weird and whimsical. As a former Signature School student, I am proud that I get to give back to Downtown Evansville with this mural."

Funding from Downtown property owners through the EID paid for the mural. A special thanks to Encounter Church, the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana, and CenterPoint Energy for their collaboration on the mural project.
